What is a trauma bond? Wikipedia says "Trauma bonds are emotional bonds that arise from a cyclical pattern of abuse. A trauma bond occurs in an abusive relationship wherein the victim forms an emotional bond with the perpetrator." However, I don't find this to be the greatest explanation. So then, how would I describe a trauma bond? Well I would like to get far deeper into this topic with you all someday, but today I will only be leaving you with this song. A song which I did in fact write while standing in a riverbank, on an evening in July, and later recorded on my bedroom floor moments after reaching the numbing post-panic attack.
This ended up being one of, if not, my favorite song I’ve ever written, and I hope to be able to professionally record it someday.
Disclaimer: This song uses suicidal metaphors (drowning) to describe the feeling and experience of Stockholm Syndrome and trauma bonding. This song is not about literal suicide nor does it promote suicide.
Note: If you came across this video and are experiencing the feelings described in this song, whether metaphorically or literally, please reach out to someone safe or in extreme cases, contact an emergency hotline.
And please also know this: there is hope in Jesus. He loves you and He awaits at the door and knocks.
